Videoconferencing History and Experience
In 1979 Strategic Television's founder, Gary Badoud,
convinced TRW Credit to use satellite technology to address their
customers nationwide. The videoconference was a seminar addressing the new
bankruptcy laws and their effect on the credit industry. Getting creative,
Gary talked HBO into using their satellite facilities during the day
(remember when HBO only broadcast at night?) and on June 4, 1980 satellite
videoconferencing became a reality. The now-billion dollar industry was in
its infancy.
